Big Wave Surfing

The Big Wave Invitational In Memory of Eddie Aikau, (celebrated Hawaiian surfer and lifeguard, who disappeared at sea) is only held within a certain period of every year, and only if the waves reach a minimum of 20 feet. There have only been 7 of these competitions in 23 years, as it is very important for the swell to be right. Unlike other big wave competitions, surfers are not allowed to be jet-skied into the waves, they have to use their own man power to get out there through up to 6 storey sized waves! The eighth of these competitions was just held yesterday, with new entrant Greg Long beating veteran Kelly Slater. Ah, would love to go and see it sometime.
"It really is about the wave and celebrating the ocean. It's what we do: go out there and ride big waves."

Falling

Yves Klein
Photobucket

Eyes are falling
Lips are falling
Hair is falling to the ground
Slowly, softly
Falling, falling
Down in silence to the ground
All the world is falling, falling
All the blue
From me and you
Teardrops falling to the ground
Teardrops
I'm talkin' 'bout your teardrops

For instance
Oh my mama
She's been falling
Falling down for quite some time
And oh my papa
He's been falling
Falling down for quite some time
Oh my friends
I've watched them falling
Falling softly to the ground
Like the leaves
The Leaves are falling
Down in silence to the ground

Psychobilly man Hasil Adkins

Hasil The Haze Adkins, was a one man band from west Virginia. He was the youngest of 10 kids, birthyear unknown, as it was written in a family bible that got lost. He grew up dirt poor, and learned to play music by making rhythms on anything he could find in the house. His parents then gave him a guitar in his early teenage years, which led to him writing a lot of songs and touring around the US. He became an underground hero when The Cramps did a
cover of his song "She said". I came across his music for the first time on a compilation album I bought years ago, and really loved his song, and was delighted to find out about who he is and a bit about his crazy life. In 2005 He was sadly run over intentionally by a crazy kid on a quad bike, while he was sitting on his front porch. The kid shortly after decided to run someone else over as well... Adkins died a few days later. A quote from his mini biography on his website, which I think sounds like sums his music up:
"His live performances were simultaneously chaotic, graceful, and mesmerizing. Occasionally, Hasil would bring a guest to play with him for a song or two but no one could really keep up with him. That's why he always remained a one man band. During one session with a band, a musician asked Hasil "In what time is the song?" Hasil's only response was a scream. "

"Hasil denied intentionally drinking"

A little funny documentary about him, with some fascinating insight into part 1, part 2, part 3.( good chick-fight in this one;) )
