Catching up with Hanneli

After the Demeulemeester show, I caught up with Hanneli Mustaparta in St Germain, for a glass of red. She used to be a model, but says she felt a huge relief when she left it behind, and started pursuing her passion: photography and fashion. She is now a very widely read blogger; here, and in Norwegian here. She is very good at spotting people with something special about their style, and has become a bit of a style icon herself. She's also been working as a VJ for MTV, and also works as a stylist. Busy lady! A very talented girl indeed.

Backstage Ann Demeulemeester SS 2010

"We all have a responsibility in life to try to be happy" Ann D.
I just returned from a quick visit to Paris for the Demeulemeester womens show. As always, her collection was beautiful. Lots of leather, zipper chains, black and white, and bird prints.
The inspiration for this season came from the idea that we should all try to be free, to keep dreaming. Birds breaking free from a cage. The music was very positive, she had chosen a rare Bruce Springsteen recording of a live cover of Suicides' "dream baby dream" . It was interesting that the only two boys that were in the show were the only ones not wearing a chain mask. At first glance the collection might seem hard, but at a closer look it shows a great fragility, which I think Ann always finds important. Her collections always comes from an emotional point of view. Good thing to remember in life; don't stop dreaming, and don't stop striving for the better.
Check out the whole collection on Style.

Nico

Best known for her music, with The Velvet Underground and solo, she was also a model and had a few movie roles, one of them in La Dolce Vita by Fellini. She was also a good friend and arts collaborator with Andy Warhol. She was a great musician.
Performing live with The Velvet Underground here. One of my favorite all time favorite songs.
