Anish Kapoor at The Royal Academy of Arts

I found this exhibition shook me quite a bit, between feeling uncomfortable to laughing and interacting with the installations. At first encounter with "Svayambh", picture 3, I got nightmarish associations, like a huge brick of blood has been moved along tracks through 3 huge rooms, but then we started examining the materials it was made of, wax and oil based paint, and began imagining how much fun it must be to create something with that texture. The colour and scale of it was very effective, to say the least.. My favourite part was the mirrored sculpture room, which was like a ultra twisted magic mirror, like the ones at fun fairs, except that some of these actually made me feel dizzy and sick. But they also created some of the best reflections I've seen. Good fun. I really enjoy installations that we are invited to interact with. "Shooting into the corner" pic 5, is also worth mentioning; a very big cannon, loaded and charged every 20 minutes by serious looking dude, then red gloopy stuff shot at 50mph into the room next door, leaving red splatter all over the classical room and ceiling. Albeit it being another violent and uncomfortable situation, again the childish thought of the fun of playing and throwing gloop around made it very enjoyable. Worth checking out if in London, on until 11th December.
