I discovered this the other day, and I though it was very interesting, and quite amazing! Synaesthesia is a neuropsychological phenomena in which one sense organ automatically triggers a simultaneous perception in one or more other senses. Apparently about 20 combinations of senses are possible. This allows synaesthetes to for example translate sounds into colors or shapes, feel the surface of sounds, taste shapes, or associate emotions with numbers. The most common one is to hear colors, i e to see colors when one is reading words or alphabets. Apparently one in a 1000 has this. Anyone that has this, please comment?
Example of shape and color perception of the sound of church bells.
Clock ticking...
Dogs barking...
Children playing.
"T’s are generally crabbed, ungenerous creatures. U is a soulless sort of thing. 4 is honest, but… 3 I cannot trust… 9 is dark, a gentleman, tall and graceful, but politic under his suavity"
"Whenever I hear, read, or articulate (inner speech) words or word sounds, I experience an immediate and involuntary taste sensation on my tongue. These very specific taste associations never change and have remained the same for as long as I can remember."The Wild Flower's Song
As I wander'd the forest,
The green leaves among,
I heard a wild flower
Singing a song.
I slept in the Earth
In the silent night,
I murmur'd my fears
And I felt delight.
In the morning I went
As rosy as morn,
To seek for new joy;
But O! met with scorn.
